(1) One teacher has modified the story by using the Black Magic Woman demo in place of Old Nassau (Halloween Colors).
(2) A teacher suggested using universal indicator in place of food coloring. Start with water that has a pH that is slightly basic (you can adjust with a weak base). When the dry ice is added, the column changes colors as the pH drops!
